So in the second part of The American Scholar speech, he talks about the mind of the past. I know you are thinking what does that even mean? It means exactly what it says, the thoughts of the people in a different time period than you are in right now. To obtain these views, Emerson encourages strongly the importance of books. He says they are a direct indication of people's thoughts and feelings in that time period. To Emerson, knowing thoughts of the past to help build your own personal thoughts are is another key part to being a true American Scholar.

Ralph Waldo Emerson
In Emerson's adress to the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity is a very long and detailed speech. After reading the introduction to his speech I thought that was his whole speech, but was I wrong. Tonight I read the first section of this speech and what I got out of it was this. He seems to be saying that no matter who a person is or where they come from, they have to discover who they are and what they want to be themselves. He says not to let these things pigeon hole you into an unwanted life, but take the road you want in life and not the one that is always set for you. I really find this to be motivational and I agree with it fully. However, some people do not have the same opportunities that other more fortunate people have, but Emerson is saying that they should work through that no matter how difficult, because he believes in the end it will only make you stronger.

On To The Next One
Alright, so this is my second blog. I'm supposed to blog about about this guy with one of the longest names I have ever heard. J. Hector St. John de Crevecoeur, is just one of this guy's many names(how he came up with all these I have no idea). He was probably one of the most indecisive guys in History. I say this because he fought in the French and Indian War and after the British defeat of the French he settled in America and became a self proclaimed American. Then during the American Revolution, he sided with the British(The French hate the British). This is deffinetly a person I do not want to model my actions after haha, but this is all for now. Until next time.

Gettin' It Started

Alright, so this is my first ever blog and I don't really know what i'm doing. I'm pretty much just writing to write and I hope no one judges the future of my blog on this one post. I will learn what i'm doing as I go on and I hope whoever reads this understands this is my first blog ever. Speak not what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation. http://www.sfheart.com/FranklinsVirtues.html
