In Emerson's adress to the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity is a very long and detailed speech. After reading the introduction to his speech I thought that was his whole speech, but was I wrong. Tonight I read the first section of this speech and what I got out of it was this. He seems to be saying that no matter who a person is or where they come from, they have to discover who they are and what they want to be themselves. He says not to let these things pigeon hole you into an unwanted life, but take the road you want in life and not the one that is always set for you. I really find this to be motivational and I agree with it fully. However, some people do not have the same opportunities that other more fortunate people have, but Emerson is saying that they should work through that no matter how difficult, because he believes in the end it will only make you stronger.
